I am part of an AUTISM FORUM at the Illinois State Library. Since our last meeting, I positively identified 3 of our users who are on the autistic spectrum. I talked to the parents and told them how we would accommodate their children.

One parent was worried about the noise his son made in the library. I reassured him that we didn’t care about the noise, and that we would love to see him in the library often. Now this precious young man comes in regularly.

Another of our users who is autistic has a hard time returning books on time. She is a sweet teenager who is lovely to be around. I told mom that her daughter could help us here and work off her fines. Mom liked that idea.
